I don’t know about you, but I always feel a tiny pang of guilt when I hand someone a gift card. Don’t get me wrong—gift cards are so practical and always appreciated—but they can sometimes feel a little impersonal, especially when you're someone who loves putting heart and time into your handmade cards.
That’s exactly why I had to share this fun beer mug gift card holder I created using the Beer Mug A2 Gift Card Holder Die Set and the Neighborhood Bar 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pack from Scrappy Boy Stamps. This little project totally solves the “impersonal gift card” problem with a design that’s unique, clever, and surprisingly simple to put together.

Beer Mug Gift Card Holder:
A Toast-Worthy Gift Card Holder
The beer mug shape is instantly eye-catching, and it feels playful without being too cute—perfect for Father’s Day, birthdays, retirements, or just that hard-to-make-a-card-for guy in your life. And even though the die set is shaped and dimensional, it still fits beautifully on a standard A2 card front, which I love.
For my card, I started by cutting all the parts from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb Cardstock—the mug base, slider piece, and one of the foam layers. I used Honeycomb and Stardust Cardstocks (from Concord & 9th) for that rich golden “beer” tone and added just a touch of Ocean Breeze Ink around the mug edges. That hint of ink blending gives it a little more depth and makes the whole design pop off the card.
Pro Tip: A soft ink blend around your die cuts—especially white die cuts—can take them from flat to fabulous with barely any extra time. It’s a tiny trick that makes a big difference.

Glossy Accents for a Realistic Finish
One of my favorite details? The foam and sentiment layers are cut from White Glossy Cardstock and Black Glossy Cardstock (also from SBC). It gives just the right amount of shine and contrast without needing to fuss with heat embossing or liquid gloss. The shadow layer behind the word “Beer” really helps it stand out and adds a clean, polished look to the whole design.
I actually laughed a little when I finished putting the foam layers together—it genuinely looked like the top of a frosty pint. That’s the kind of little moment that makes cardmaking so rewarding, right?

The Finishing Touch: A Background That Sets the Scene
To finish off the card, I chose a paper from the Neighborhood Bar 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pack. These papers have such a great mix of neutral tones and masculine textures—it added just enough visual interest without overpowering the mug.
I trimmed it down to 4" x 5¼" and adhered it to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Ultra Thick Cardstock. Then I popped up the beer mug gift card holder with some foam adhesive for dimension and called it done. You could easily tuck in a gift card for their favorite restaurant, brewery, or even a hardware store.
Pro Tip: When using shaped dies like this, try adding foam adhesive just around the outer edges of the shape. It gives you a more stable base while leaving room to tuck in a gift card or message slider without resistance.

A Thoughtful, Handmade Way to Give a Gift Card
I’ve said it before, but I think the best part of handmade cards is the way they turn something ordinary into something meaningful. This beer mug design is so playful and thoughtful—and it works for so many different occasions. Best of all, it’s something your recipient will probably keep and show off, even after spending the gift card.
If you’re looking for a unique way to give a gift card, especially for the guys in your life, this project is definitely worth trying. It comes together quickly, but it feels like you spent hours making it just for them.
