Christmas Door 3D Box:

A Gift Box with a Story

One of my favorite things about this 3D Door Box die set is its charm—it’s like building the entryway to a tiny home, complete with a door and side windows. For this project, I wanted to highlight its functionality by turning it into a festive cocoa kit. Picture this: hot cocoa in the center box, marshmallows in one side box, and crushed peppermint in the other. It’s adorable and practical!

But what I really love is how this project can tell a story. As I was working on it, I imagined this cozy door leading to a warm holiday gathering, the wreath on the front welcoming guests in from the cold. That sense of home and tradition makes this box feel extra special.

Materials That Make the Magic Happen

Let’s talk supplies! I used Nutmeg Cardstock (Concord & 9th) for the structure of the box—it’s sturdy and has a warm tone that complements the holiday theme beautifully. For contrast, I brought in Paper Bag Cardstock (Altenew) for the stitched rectangle on the door and other details.

To give the windows a glow, I opted for Yellow Smooth Cardstock (Scrapbook.com). It’s a small detail, but it adds so much character, making it look like there’s a light on inside. For the side boxes, I added a pop of pattern with a plaid design from the Christmas 6 x 6 Paper Pad by Pixi Dust Designs. The mix of solids and patterns creates a polished look that’s festive without being too busy.

And of course, the wreath! I die-cut the base from Avocado Cardstock (Concord & 9th) and used a scrap of the plaid pattern paper for the bow. Little touches like this bring the entire piece together.

Bringing the Box to Life

I started by cutting and assembling the three boxes: the center box with the door and the two side boxes that act as windows. The 3D Door Box die set is wonderfully designed, making assembly straightforward. A small hinge on the door adds a fun, interactive element, and the side boxes open from the top, providing plenty of room for small treats.

One thing I learned while working on this project is the importance of layering. By adding the stitched rectangle and extra details to the door, the design feels dimensional and realistic.

Pro Tip: If you’re ever unsure about how to layer patterned and solid papers, stick to this rule: let the pattern shine on smaller elements, like accents or side panels, and keep larger surfaces solid. It creates balance and ensures the pattern doesn’t overwhelm the design.

Why You’ll Love This Die Set

The 3D Door Box Dies are a game changer for holiday crafting. Not only are they perfect for creating treat boxes, but they can also be tailored to match any style or occasion. You could easily adapt this project for birthdays, housewarming gifts, or even as a seasonal décor piece.

This project is also a great way to use up scraps. I was able to pull in small pieces from my stash for the windows and wreath, which made me feel extra resourceful.

Pro Tip: When working on projects like this, keep a tray or bin of cardstock scraps nearby. You’d be amazed at how often those tiny offcuts come in handy for decorative elements.
