Writer's picture: Rick AdkinsRick Adkins

There’s just something about fall that brings a sense of warmth and coziness to everything, don’t you think? The colors of the leaves, the crispness in the air, and of course, the crafting inspiration it brings. Today, I’m sharing a clean and simple fall wreath card that perfectly captures that seasonal vibe. If you're like me and love making cards that feel like fall without overcomplicating things, this one’s for you! The star of the show is The Rabbit Hole Designs’ Autumn Is Calling Stamp Set. Let me walk you through the project and some of my favorite products that made this card come together.

Clean & Simple Fall Wreath Card:

A Fall Wreath Full of Color

To create the focal point of this card, I knew the wreath from the Autumn Is Calling Stamp Set would be perfect. Wreaths are such a lovely way to frame a card, and this one, with its mix of leaves and acorns, really captures the heart of the season. I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink onto Neenah Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock—my go-to for crisp images and smooth coloring.

When it comes to coloring, fall offers such an array of rich tones that it’s hard to resist. I grabbed my Ohuhu Oahu Alcohol Markers and dove right into those autumn hues. I used oranges, reds, golden yellows, browns, and olive greens for the leaves. For the acorns, I chose a lighter red-brown for the tops and a soft beige for the bottoms, giving them just the right contrast.

Pro Tip: If you're new to alcohol markers, fall-themed cards are a great way to practice blending colors. The mix of warm tones blends beautifully together and, trust me, the colors practically do the work for you! Start with your lightest shade and build up to the darker tones. You’ll love the depth it creates

Adding Dimension with a Stencil

Now, if you're anything like me, you love adding a little something extra without overpowering the design. That’s where stencils come in handy. I used the large circle stencil from the Penny Black Background Basics Stencil Set. It’s subtle but frames the wreath beautifully.

Using my CottonTail Blending Brushes, I lightly ink-blended the inside of the circle with Frayed Burlap Distress Ink, keeping the blend soft around the edges. This little touch of ink adds warmth and dimension without distracting from the wreath. I love how it frames the design and draws your eye right to the center.

Pro Tip: When ink blending with stencils, try to hold your brush at an angle and use circular motions to keep the blending soft and controlled. If you apply too much pressure, you might end up with harsh lines. Start light, you can always build up the color gradually!

A Bold Sentiment

No card is complete without a sentiment that ties everything together. For this card, I wanted something meaningful but simple. I stamped "Holds a Wonder All Its Own" below the wreath in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. This ink is perfect for sentiments because it gives a rich, bold impression with just one pass.

Whenever I’m choosing a sentiment for a clean and simple card, I try to keep it in balance with the rest of the design. You want the sentiment to be strong but not overpowering, and this one does the job beautifully.

The Finishing Touches

Now for my favorite part—those little finishing touches that make your card stand out. I added some highlights to the leaves and acorns with my Signo Uni-Ball White Gel Pen. Just a few small strokes here and there, and suddenly the whole wreath has more dimension and life.

I also couldn’t resist adding a bit of sparkle. The Rabbit Hole Designs Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots were the perfect way to add some shine without taking away from the simplicity of the design. I scattered a few dots around the card front, and they catch the light just enough to give a little extra magic.

Pro Tip: When using enamel dots, less is more. Try to place them in a triangular pattern or groupings of odd numbers to create balance and harmony across the card. It’s a small detail, but it really makes a difference!

Bringing It All Together

To finish the card, I mounted the card front onto an A2 top-folding card base made from Neenah Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock. This gives the card a sturdy feel and makes it look polished and professional. And because I can never resist a good bow, I tied a double bow with some May Arts Ivory Burlap Twine and adhered it to the wreath. The rustic touch of the twine adds just the right amount of texture and charm to the overall design.

Why I Love This Design

This card may be clean and simple, but it’s full of texture, color, and little details that make it feel special. The wreath from Autumn Is Calling offers the perfect canvas for showcasing those gorgeous fall colors, and the addition of the ink-blended circle helps anchor the design without adding too much complexity. It’s a card that celebrates the beauty of fall in a way that feels effortless.

If you're looking for a project that captures the essence of the season without overwhelming you with too many steps, this clean and simple fall wreath card is the way to go. Plus, it’s easy to personalize by switching up the colors or the sentiment—making it perfect for a variety of occasions throughout the fall season.
