Hello, crafty friends! Today, I’m thrilled to share a fun and vibrant birthday card featuring the Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set, Sentimentally Speaking Dies, and Candy Twist 6 x 6 Stencil from The Rabbit Hole Designs. This project is perfect for anyone looking to create a clean and simple card with a burst of color and a touch of elegance.
Clean & Simple Happy Birthday Card
Creating the Background
I started out by taking my Candy Twist 6 x 6 Stencil and placing it over a piece of Neenah Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock. Using my Bitty Bunny Blending Brushes, I applied ink from several Mini Distress Ink Cubes: Candied Apple, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Tumbled Glass, Prized Ribbon, Seedless Preserves, and Dust Concord. Each section of the stencil got its own vibrant color, creating a delightful rainbow effect.
Here’s a little story: as I was blending, my mind drifted back to my childhood days, where I spent hours with my coloring books, trying to stay within the lines. The joy of blending these colors brought back that same childhood excitement!
Adding Details
Once I was satisfied with the blending, I grabbed my fine-lined black Micron Pen and traced around the inside parts of the stencil. This simple step added a crisp, defined look to the background, making the colors pop even more. After removing the stencil, I felt the need to add a bit more depth. I picked up my Ohuhu Honolulu Brush Markers and used coordinating colors to enhance the ink blending, adding subtle details and shading.
Assembling the Card
With the background ready, I decided to cut the panel on a diagonal for an interesting twist. I then adhered it to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Solar White 110 lbs Ultra Thick Cardstock. To add a sleek finish, I used a 1/4" width scrap of Pitch Black Cardstock from Hero Arts and placed it over the seam between the cut-down panel and the card base, securing it with a little bead of Bearly Arts Liquid Glue. This black strip not only covers the seam but also adds a sophisticated touch to the card.
Crafting the Sentiment
Next up was the sentiment. I stamped the “happy birthday” sentiment from the Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set onto a scrap of Neenah Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. I then used the coordinating die from the Sentimentally Speaking Dies to cut it out. To give the sentiment some dimension, I die-cut two additional layers from scrap cardstock and layered them together before adding them to the card base.
Finishing Touches
No card is complete without a bit of sparkle! I added a few Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots from The Rabbit Hole Designs to finish off the card. These little embellishments catch the light beautifully, adding a magical touch to the final design.
