Create A-Dough-Rable Valentine's Day Card

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite times to get creative with paper crafting. There’s something about hearts, pinks, and reds that sparks joy in my studio. This year, I wanted to create a card that would stand out—a playful and “a-dough-rable” design featuring the You're A-Dough-Rable Die Set and the My Valentine 6 x 6 Paper Pad from Pixi Dust Designs. If you’re like me, you love crafting with adorable themes that bring a smile to anyone’s face. These dies and papers were the perfect starting point for a card full of charm and whimsy.

Create A-Dough-Rable Valentine's Day Card:

The Charm of Character Building

One of the things I enjoy most about using die sets like You're A-Dough-Rable is how easy they make it to create characters with personality. I rummaged through my stash of cardstock scraps and chose colors for the donut and coffee cup base. Then, I added a fun twist by die-cutting the icing and coffee wrap from patterned papers in the My Valentine Paper Pack.

As I assembled these little characters, I couldn’t help but smile. The donut with its frosting and sprinkles came to life next to the cheerful coffee cup. This process reminded me of how much joy crafting can bring, especially when you let your imagination run free.

Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterned papers with your cardstock scraps. Patterns add interest and bring your die-cut characters to life in unexpected ways!

Layering for a Polished Look

Once my characters were ready, it was time to work on the card base. I started with a standard A2 top-fold card base. For the background, I chose a bold pink stripe pattern from the My Valentine Paper Pad. This paper had just the right amount of Valentine’s flair! To make it stand out, I matted it with black cardstock before adhering it to the card front.

Layering is one of my go-to techniques for adding depth and visual interest. I followed the striped layer with a smaller piece of white shimmer cardstock, also matted with black, and finished with a red and pink heart-patterned strip for contrast.

Pro Tip: When layering patterned paper, use black or dark mats to make your layers pop. It helps define each piece and keeps the card from looking too busy.

Arranging the “A-Dough-Rable” Elements

The real fun came when it was time to place the donut and coffee cup characters on the card. I used foam squares to give them dimension, letting them sit slightly above the background layers. The way they seem to “pop” off the card adds a playful element that I just love.

I finished the card by die-cutting the sentiment, “You’re A-Dough-Rable,” from black cardstock and placing it near the characters. To tie it all together, I added a few white gel pen highlights to the donut and coffee cup for extra charm. It’s amazing how small details like highlights can make such a big difference.
