Curtain Call Fun Fold Card: Rainbow Garden Collection | Paper Rose Studio

Writer: Rick AdkinsRick Adkins

There’s something so satisfying about a fun fold card. Not only does it add an unexpected interactive element, but it’s also a fantastic way to showcase beautiful patterned paper in a unique way. Today, I’m sharing my Curtain Call Fun Fold Card featuring the Rainbow Garden 6 x 6 Paper Collection and Rainbow Garden Embossed Die Cuts from Paper Rose Studio—a vibrant and playful combination that’s perfect for any occasion.

One of the challenges I hear often from card makers is figuring out how to use multiple patterned papers without making a design feel too busy. I totally get it—when you have gorgeous paper collections like this one, it’s tempting to use all the patterns at once! But with the right balance, fun folds like this allow you to mix patterns while keeping everything cohesive.

Let’s dive into the design choices for this card and how you can adapt it for your own projects.

Curtain Call Fun Fold Card:

Playing with Patterned Paper

For this card, I wanted to highlight two stunning patterns from the Rainbow Garden collection. The first features a rainbow floral design with a subtle blue and white texture running through the center, while the second is a vibrant rainbow wood grain pattern. These two papers complement each other beautifully—one with an organic, floral feel and the other with a structured, textured background.

I placed the floral pattern on the front panels of the Curtain Call Fun Fold Card, carefully cutting each section along the design to create a continuous, seamless flow across the card. This is a small detail, but it makes a big difference in the final look. When working with patterned paper, aligning the design elements between panels can create a polished, intentional feel rather than a cut-off or disjointed look.

For contrast, I used the rainbow wood grain pattern on the back of each panel. This not only adds visual interest but also provides a solid contrast to all the bright floral details on the front. It’s a great way to incorporate a second pattern without overwhelming the design.

Pro Tip: When combining patterned papers, try pairing one bold design with a more subtle or structured one. This keeps the card from feeling too chaotic and allows each pattern to shine.

Creating a Focal Point

Every card needs a focal point, and for this design, I chose to add a sentiment piece to the center fold-up panel. I used the same floral pattern again here, tying everything together, and layered a small rectangle sentiment cut from the patterned paper on top. To make the sentiment pop, I matted it with black cardstock—this is a simple trick that helps define elements and adds contrast, especially when working with bright colors.

To finish the sentiment panel, I added one of the Rainbow Garden Embossed Die Cuts—a floral arrangement in a bucket. These die cuts have such a gorgeous embossed texture that gives them extra depth. I popped the sentiment up slightly to create some dimension and make it the true centerpiece of the card.

Adding Finishing Touches

No card is complete without a little sparkle! To add a bit of shimmer, I placed a few of the smallest Clear Crystal Mix gems in the centers of some flowers on the front panel. This subtle touch enhances the floral elements without overpowering the design.

Pro Tip: When adding embellishments, think about placement in a way that complements your design rather than distracting from it. A few strategically placed gems can enhance a card, while too many can take away from the details.

Why You’ll Love This Fun Fold

What I love most about this Curtain Call Fun Fold Card is how it allows the patterned paper to take center stage while still incorporating layers, dimension, and a fun interactive element. This design is perfect for showcasing collections like Rainbow Garden, where each pattern is beautiful on its own but even more impactful when paired together.
