Halloween is just around the corner, and I’m so excited to share a project that’s perfect for adding a little spooky flair to your festivities! Today, we’re making an adorable (and slightly spooky) coffin treat box using the Halloween Coffin 3D Box Dies and Halloween Coffin Add On Dies from Pixi Dust Designs. If you’re looking for a fun way to package treats for parties or even just to give to friends and family, this project is a great option. Plus, it’s a unique way to make use of those Halloween dies you’ve been waiting to try!
Easy Coffin Treat Box:
Creating the Perfect Coffin Box Base
When I first saw the Halloween Coffin 3D Box Die, I knew it was going to be a favorite for Halloween projects. There’s something about the mini coffin shape that’s both cute and eerie, which is exactly what I love about Halloween crafting. For this project, I started by cutting the base of the box from charcoal cardstock. This deep, dark color really sets the stage for the spooky vibes!
I used my die cutting machine to cut out the top and bottom of the coffin box, and one thing I love about this die set is how easy it is to work with. The pieces come together smoothly, and if you’re careful with your glue placement, the seams look seamless. If you’ve ever struggled with assembling 3D projects, my biggest tip is to take your time with the glue. Using liquid glue gives you the flexibility to adjust things before it dries, but it also holds everything in place securely once set.
Pro tip: If you're worried about glue getting messy, try applying it sparingly with a fine-tip nozzle. A little goes a long way, and it helps keep your project clean and crisp.
Adding the Batty Details
Once the base was ready, it was time to add some personality to the coffin. I wanted something subtle yet Halloween-themed, so I reached for my Willow Lane 6 x 8 Pattern Paper Pad and found the perfect bat pattern. There’s something about tiny bats against the dark coffin that really enhances the spooky feel without overwhelming the overall design.
I cut decorative panels for the top and bottom of the coffin using this bat-patterned paper and adhered them with liquid glue. Layering these pieces on the charcoal cardstock gives the box a nice contrast while keeping everything cohesive. You could easily switch up the patterned paper to fit your own Halloween style—maybe pumpkins or witches if that’s more your theme!
One thing I love about adding patterned paper is how much it elevates a project. It's a quick and easy way to add detail without having to use a lot of additional supplies. Plus, patterned paper can tie a whole project together in a way that’s visually interesting but still simple to do. I always recommend experimenting with different patterns—you’d be surprised at how much it changes the look of your project!
Assembling the Coffin
With the decorative elements in place, it was time to assemble the box. I used liquid glue again to join the top and bottom pieces of the coffin. This part is so satisfying—watching the flat pieces transform into a 3D box is one of those moments that makes me love crafting. It reminds me of when I first started making cards and boxes; seeing those shapes come to life felt almost magical. That’s one thing I adore about papercrafting—it never gets old, no matter how many times I do it!
While assembling, make sure to give the glue enough time to dry. I like to use small binder clips to hold the edges together while the glue sets. This keeps everything secure and ensures the box doesn’t shift as it dries. It’s a small step that makes a big difference, especially if you’re planning to fill the box with treats and want it to hold up.
Pro tip: When assembling 3D projects, I always recommend working on a flat surface and assembling one piece at a time. Patience is key—rushing through the gluing process can cause pieces to shift and misalign.
Finishing Touches: Haunted Window Cover
Now for my favorite part—adding the decorative haunted house window cover from the Halloween Coffin Add On Dies! This die set comes with all sorts of fun pieces, but I especially love the haunted house and little ghost that I used for the window. I cut the window cover from charcoal cardstock to match the box base and added a bright yellow cardstock behind it to give the illusion of a glowing haunted house.
The yellow cardstock really makes the haunted house pop and adds a bit of contrast to the otherwise dark design. This simple layering trick is a great way to add depth to your projects. The window cover sits right on top of the box lid, and it frames the yellow background perfectly, giving the coffin box an extra layer of spooky detail.
If you’re someone who loves adding dimension and detail to your projects, these add-on dies are a must-have. You can mix and match the pieces to customize your box, and it’s a quick way to make each box unique.
A Versatile Halloween Project
I love how this coffin treat box turned out—it’s perfect for Halloween party favors, gift boxes, or even as a fun decorative piece. One of the best things about this project is how versatile it is. You can switch up the colors, papers, and decorations to suit your style, or even personalize the boxes with names if you’re making them for a party.
Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, this project is a great way to dive into Halloween crafting. The die set is easy to use, and the results are so fun! I hope you enjoy making your own coffin treat boxes as much as I did.
