Writer: Rick AdkinsRick Adkins

Spring is in the air, and that means it’s the perfect time to create something soft, cheerful, and full of love. Today, I’m sharing a sweet spring bunny card featuring the Bunny Love Stamp Set and the Bees & Butterflies 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pack from Paper Rose Studio. This card is simple to make but has that polished, layered look that makes it feel extra special. Plus, I’ve included a fun embossing trick and a coloring tip to help you get a professional result with ease.

There’s something about spring cards that always makes me happy. Maybe it’s the soft pastel colors or the floral patterns that start showing up in my stash this time of year. This bunny card really captures that fresh springtime feeling, and I love how the layered design adds depth without being complicated. Let me walk you through how I put this one together and share a few tips to help you along the way.

Easy Spring Bunny Card:

Choosing the Right Pattern Paper

One of the keys to making this card work is picking the right pattern paper. I wanted something soft and spring-like without overpowering the stamped image, so I reached for the Bees & Butterflies 6 x 6 Pattern Paper Pack from Paper Rose Studio. The design I chose has a beautiful cascade of flowers and butterflies along the left-hand side, which frames the bunny perfectly without competing with the focal point.

Pro Tip: When you’re working with pattern paper, look for designs that have open space or a subtle background. It helps your stamped images and sentiments stand out instead of getting lost in the pattern.

Once I picked my pattern, I trimmed it down to 3 ¾” x 5” so it would sit nicely on a mat layer and give the card front a balanced look.

Stamping and Embossing for Extra Detail

I decided to do something a little different with the stamping on this card. After prepping the pattern paper with my Cottontail Powder Tool (from The Rabbit Hole Designs) to eliminate static, I stamped the bunny and the sentiment "some bunny loves you" directly onto the pattern paper using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. Then I covered them with Ultra Fine Clear Embossing Powder (from Hero Arts) and heat set them.

The embossing gives the bunny and sentiment a subtle shine and raised texture that helps them stand out against the pattern. It's a small detail, but it makes a big difference in how polished the final card looks.

Pro Tip: Always prep your paper before embossing. The powder tool helps prevent stray embossing powder from sticking where you don’t want it, especially when working with detailed patterns.

Coloring the Bunny

For the main focal point, I stamped the bunny from the Bunny Love Stamp Set onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I love this ink for alcohol marker coloring because it won’t bleed or smudge.

I used my Ohuhu Honolulu Brush Markers to color in the bunny. I went with soft pinks and warm muted browns to give him a cozy spring feel. When coloring small images like this, I like to keep the blending simple—too much shading can make a small design feel busy.

Pro Tip: If you’re working with alcohol markers, try using a flicking motion when blending colors. It creates a soft gradient and gives the fur a more natural look.

After coloring, I fussy cut the bunny with my Cutter-Bee Scissors. These scissors are my go-to for detailed cutting because the fine tips let you get into all those little nooks and curves without tearing the paper.

Layering for Depth and Interest

Once the bunny was ready, it was time to pull the card together. I cut a mat layer from Lemon Chiffon Cardstock to 4” x 5 ¼” and adhered the stamped pattern paper on top. The soft yellow frame ties into the spring theme and helps pull out the warmth in the bunny’s fur and the floral pattern.

Next, I placed the fussy-cut bunny over the embossed bunny on the pattern paper using foam squares. This creates a fun layered effect where the colored bunny pops off the background but still lines up perfectly with the embossed image underneath. It’s a small trick, but it gives the card a really polished look.

Finishing Touches Make the Difference

To bring everything together, I added some white gel pen highlights to the bunny’s fur and the little heart he’s holding. I love how adding a few white accents makes the coloring pop and gives the bunny a more lifelike appearance.

I also colored in the small hearts on the pattern paper with my Ohuhu Brush Markers to match the bunny’s heart. This ties the design together and gives the card a cohesive feel.

Finally, I scattered a few pieces from the Crystal Clear Embellishment Mix around the card front. The clear gems add just the right amount of sparkle without overwhelming the design.

Why This Card Works

What I love about this card is how simple it is to create, but how thoughtful details like embossing, layering, and embellishments make it feel more polished. The bunny as the focal point, combined with the subtle texture from the embossing and the soft pattern paper, gives the card depth and dimension without making it look too busy.

This is the kind of design that you can easily recreate for any occasion by switching out the sentiment or adjusting the color palette. If you’ve been looking for a simple but polished spring card, this one is a winner!
