Emboss Resist Background with a Twist WOW Embossing Powder

Hello and welcome back to my blog; this week I have another project to share with you from my Craftsman's Corner with Rick blog post over on the WOW Embossing Powder Blog. This week we are tackling the Twisted Emboss Resist Background Technique with WOW Embossing Powder and making two birthday cards.

Emboss Resist Background with a Twist WOW Embossing Powder:

Basically this the Twisted Emboss Resist Background Technique is a twist on the standard emboss resist technique. But instead of Clear Gloss Embossing Powder or Bright White Opaque Embossing Powder we are going to do the technique with a colored translucent embossing powder. Once you ink blend on top of the colored embossing powder with a complimentary or colors that work together with the colored powder you get a totally different look to your emboss resist.

To start out with the Twisted Emboss Resist Background Technique you will need a great stamp set like Hey Little Flower Stamp Set from WOW Embossing. You are going to take each of the outline floral images from this stamp set and stamp it onto a piece of WOW! Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock using your WOW! Clear Ultra Slow Drying Embossing Pad. Make sure to stamp each flower randomly around your piece of WOW! Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock

I prefer to use my MISTI when I am doing this because I can stamp one of two flowers on one side of the WOW! Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock and then flip it around to the other side and stamp them again without removing the stamps.

Once I have one side done I went ahead and covered the stamped images with the Lavender Fields Embossing Powder from the WOW Trio Summer Twilight Funky Fossil set of embossing powders. Once I had each section of the floral images covered with the embossing powder I would go a head and heat set the powder with my WOW! Dual Speed Heat Tool. After heat setting each set of floral images and letting them cool completely I would repeat the stamping, and embossing process until I had the Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock covered on the corners but the inside area was left open. This was so that I could have a place to stamp my sentiment.

Once I had the entire sheet of Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock covered completely with all the flowers I planned on using from the  Hey Little Flower Stamp Set it was time to do some ink blending. To begin with I cut my Superior Smooth White A5 Cardstock card panel down into two card fronts that were slightly smaller than a A2 size card front. On my first card I picked four different shades of yellow ink. I picked Lemon Whip, Sunshine, Sweet Mustard, and Marigold Dye Inks (from Pink Fresh Studio) for my yellows today. I started with the lightest color and filled up the entire panel. I then added the other three shades layering each from the edge of the cardstock to the center. Once I had the entire panel covered I used a paper towel and removed any excess ink on top of the embossing powder.

I repeated the ink blending process on the second panel but I used a shade of red ink (Passion Fruit Dye Ink from Pink Fresh Studio) and a shade of blue ink (Summer Shower Dye Ink from Pink Fresh Studio). Where the two shades met I let them blend together to create a purple shade. Once the ink blending was completed I also removed the excess ink. If your embossing looks a little dual after the ink blending; you can get the shine back by heat it with your WOW! Dual Speed Heat Tool for a couple seconds until the embossing powder becomes shinny again.

Once I had both panels finished I stamped the large "happy birthday" sentiment from the Happy Birthday Sentiments Clear Stamp Set in my favorite black pigment ink (Versafine Clair Nocturne) in the center of each card. I like this ink because it always gives me a nice crips black sentiment. I then stamped a sub-sentiment from the stamp set in Unicorn White Pigment Ink (from Hero Arts) on a scrap of Pitch Black Cardstock (from Hero Arts) and covered the sub-sentiments with some Bright White Opaque Embossing Powder. I then heat set the sub-sentiments with my WOW! Dual Speed Heat Tool until smooth and melted. Once they had cooled I cut them into smaller strips and added a little Instant Dimension Foam Tape on the back of each. I placed the sub-sentiments under the main "happy birthday" sentiment.

To finish off each card I added each of the panels to a small mat layer of Pitch Black Cardstock and then to my two card bases. I made one a top folding card and one a side folding card. For my A2 size card bases I used Neenah Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock. All I had to do then was added some Crystal Ball Dew Drops (from Trinity Stamps) to the card front. And add a little more sparkle to the flowers with my Spectrum Noir Clear Overlay Sparkle Pen

And there you have it my friends, that is how you do the Twisted Emboss Resist Background Technique. I told you it wasn't hard. But it gives a fun new twist on a classic technique. I hope that you give this a try. Have a fabulous day!
