Fall See Through Shaker Card: with WOW Embossing

Today, I’m thrilled to share a card design that's just as unique as it is fun—my Fall See-Through Shaker Card, featuring the incredible shimmer and richness of WOW Embossing Powders. Fall cards always have that extra warmth and charm, and when you add a see-through shaker element, it truly takes things up a notch. I’ll walk you through how I pulled this card together and share my favorite tips for working with acetate, embossing powders, and shaker elements to achieve a polished, professional finish.

Fall See Through Shaker Card:

Bringing Autumn to Life with WOW Embossing Powders

When it comes to adding texture and color to a card, embossing powder can be a real game changer, especially WOW Embossing Powders. For this card, I used several of their embossing powders and mixed media additives that just scream fall—Pumpkin Latte, Earthtone Olive, and some incredible sparkly bits like Gold Dust Sprinkles and Dragon Scales. WOW products are perfect for achieving that layered, luxurious look with minimal fuss, and they’re just as forgiving for beginners as they are exciting for experienced card makers.

Pro Tip: When using embossing powder on acetate, be sure to use heat-resistant acetate, or you may end up with a warped, bubbly mess. Also, prepping with an anti-static powder tool like the CottonTail Powder Brush is a must to keep stray powder from sticking where you don’t want it.

Crafting the See-Through Feature

See-through shaker cards are one of those designs that look a bit intimidating at first but are actually pretty straightforward once you break them down. For this card, I wanted that autumn feel to come through on both sides, so I used a heat-resistant acetate panel embossed with WOW’s Pumpkin Latte Embossing Powder and the Fern Background Stamp. It has that perfect mix of earthy orange and warm shimmer, adding a subtle nod to fall foliage. The panel itself is cut to just slightly under A2 size, leaving a bit of wiggle room for layering with a frame.

For the card base, I simply cut out a rectangular window from the front. It’s amazing how that one change—going from a traditional closed card to one with a see-through front—completely shifts the design. The shaker bits add movement and sparkle, visible from both sides, which always gets a “wow” from anyone I show it to.

Pro Tip: To keep your layers aligned and clean, sandwich the acetate panel between a cardstock frame and a plain sheet of acetate attached to the card front. This way, you get a sturdy, polished look that feels nice and solid in hand.

Adding the Shaker Elements

Let’s talk shaker bits! I went all out with WOW’s sprinkles and mixed media additives—Cotton Candy Sprinkles, Gold Dust Sprinkles, Looking Glass, Dragon Scales, and Harlequin. This combination of textures and colors creates a magical feel that works beautifully with the warm autumn tones. I added 1mm foam strips around the edges to build a well for the shaker pieces, which helps give the card that dimensional, “floating” effect.

There’s something so satisfying about giving a card that shake and watching all those tiny sparkly pieces dance around. And with see-through shaker cards, you get to appreciate those shaker bits from both sides of the card. This design is a fantastic way to make sure all your embellishments get their moment to shine—literally!

Pro Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix different types of shaker elements. Combining sprinkles with metallic or translucent bits adds layers of interest and makes the shaker panel feel full and visually balanced.

Embossing the Sentiment for a Professional Finish

For the sentiment, I chose to use the outline box from the Happiest Day Stamp Set and embossed it with WOW’s Earthtone Olive Embossing Powder. I stamped it twice with Ultra Slow Drying Ink, then filled the box with a fall sentiment embossed in Pumpkin Latte. Using two embossing colors adds contrast and draws the eye right to the sentiment.

One trick I love for see-through cards is to double up on the sentiment by placing another identical piece on the inside of the card, hiding any adhesive from the front sentiment. Not only does it give the card a neat, finished look, but it also adds stability to that acetate layer.

Pro Tip: When trimming your sentiment piece, leave a thin white border around the edges. It makes the sentiment stand out more against the background and helps it blend with any layers underneath, giving it a polished look without the need for additional matting.
