Get Well Soon Card:

Creating the Pinwheel Background

Let’s dive into the background first. The Pinwheel Stencil is the star of the show here. I started by placing the stencil over a piece of Neenah Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock and secured it with some low tack tape. This ensures that the stencil stays put while you work your magic.

Now, here’s a little trick I love to use – lightly tracing the stencil pattern with a pencil before adding color. This step allows for more precise coloring and helps keep those beautiful lines intact. Once the tracing was complete, I removed the stencil and got to work with my Ohuhu Honolulu Brush Markers. These markers are perfect for blending, and I chose a variety of colors to create a rainbow effect within each section of the pinwheel design. The key here is to blend the colors seamlessly but stay within the pencil lines.

Pro Tip: When blending colors, start with the lightest shade and gradually add the darker shades. This method helps achieve a smooth transition and prevents harsh lines.

Adding Definition with Micron Pen

Once the coloring was done, it was time to bring back the stencil for some added definition. Placing the stencil back over the colored design, I traced the pattern again using a Number 5 Micron Pen. This step not only enhances the detail but also makes the design pop against the vibrant background.

After removing the stencil, I trimmed the panel down to 4" x 5 1/4". This slight reduction in size gives a nice border when mounted on the card base, adding a touch of elegance.

Assembling the Card

To add a bit of softness and interest, I cut a strip of Vellum Cardstock about 1 3/4 to 2 inches wide and wrapped it around the card front, securing it with strong adhesive. The vellum adds a subtle layer without overpowering the colorful background. I then mounted the entire panel onto a slightly larger piece of black cardstock and adhered it to an A2 top folding card base.

Pro Tip: Use a bone folder to ensure the vellum adheres smoothly and doesn’t create any bubbles or wrinkles.

Crafting the Sentiment

The Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set & Sentimentally Speaking Dies are perfect for adding a heartfelt message. I stamped the “Get Well Soon” sentiment onto a scrap of Neenah Solar White Cardstock using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink, which provides a crisp and clear impression. Using the coordinating die, I cut out the sentiment and added dimension by cutting three additional layers from scrap cardstock. Stacking these behind the stamped sentiment gives it a sturdy, chipboard-like feel, making it stand out beautifully against the card front.

Finishing Touches

No card is complete without a few finishing touches! I added some Matte White Enamel Dots around the sentiment for a bit of embellishment. These little dots are perfect for adding a subtle yet impactful detail. Lastly, I used my trusty Uniball Signo White Gel Pen to add highlights to the colored pinwheel design. This final step adds a touch of whimsy and brings the whole design together.

Pro Tip: When adding highlights, think about where the light would naturally hit your design. This small detail can make a big difference in making your card look polished and professional.
