Let’s be honest—how many anniversary cards have you made that featured hearts, roses, or the color red? Probably a good handful, right? I know I’ve been there. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the classic romantic look, sometimes it’s fun to shake things up a bit and surprise the recipient with something playful, fresh, and unexpected. That’s exactly what I set out to do with today’s card using the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle from The Rabbit Hole Designs.
Now, I know mixing daffodils and cupcakes might not scream “anniversary” at first glance, but stick with me—because this cheerful combo turned into one of the most lighthearted and charming anniversary cards I’ve made in a while.

Happy Anniversary Card: Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Bundle | The Rabbit Hole Designs:
When Florals Meet Frosting
This card really started with the cupcake from the Berry Sweet Stamp Set. I had just finished baking a batch of lemon cupcakes for my husband (he’s a lemon dessert kind of guy), and the moment I saw that little cupcake stamp, I thought, Why not put dessert front and center on an anniversary card? It felt personal, fun, and completely different from the norm.
To give the card some balance and a touch of elegance, I brought in the single-stemmed daffodil image from the Daffodil Stamp Set. Daffodils have this beautiful symbolism of new beginnings and fresh starts—what better message to send for an anniversary?
I stamped all of my images on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80 lb Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored them up with my Copic Markers. The coordinating dies made quick work of cutting them out, which is always such a time-saver when you’re crafting in short windows of time between errands and appointments.

Setting the Scene
To set the background, I grabbed my Clouds in My Coffee Stencil and layered it over a rectangle stencil from the Background Basic Stencils (from Penny Black). I ink blended soft rows of clouds in that framed opening, flipping and shifting the stencil as I went to create variation and movement.
Here’s a little pro tip: flip your stencil upside down every so often and move it slightly off-center each time you ink blend. This keeps your cloud pattern from looking too uniform, and you’ll end up with a more natural sky effect.
Once I had the background looking just right, I trimmed the panel down slightly and used my T-square and a gel pen to draw in some faux stitching around the frame. It’s such an easy detail, but it adds that polished, handmade touch that makes the card feel finished.

Playing With Layers
For the “ground,” I added a small strip of woodgrain pattern paper from my stash using foam tape. That one little strip turned the bottom of the card into a sort of tabletop or windowsill for my scene. I tucked the daffodils behind it and placed the cupcake right on top, almost like it’s part of a centerpiece or a little anniversary breakfast display.
And then—my favorite part—the sentiment. I used the “Happy Anniversary” greeting from the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Stamp Set and die cut it with the coordinating sentiment die. I love how bold and clean the sentiments in this set are. They’re versatile enough to use year-round, and I’ve already shared projects for Mother’s Day and Father's Day using it.
I popped the sentiment up with foam adhesive to give it some dimension and adhered the whole panel to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Ultra Thick White Cardstock. A little Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle on the cupcake frosting and some white gel pen highlights were the finishing touches.

Why I Love This Card (And Why It Works)
I think what I love most about this card is that it tells a story. The daffodils, the cupcake, the soft clouds in the background—it’s cheerful, unexpected, and heartfelt without being too serious. It feels like a celebration, which is exactly what an anniversary should be.

If you’re someone who’s felt boxed in by traditional themes or has struggled to make anniversary cards feel “fresh,” I hope this post gives you a little spark of inspiration. You don’t have to stick to hearts and roses. In fact, sometimes the best cards come from mixing stamps you wouldn’t normally pair together and letting the layout or story come together naturally.
So go ahead—pull out your florals, grab that sweet treat image you’ve been waiting to use, and create something delightfully different for your next special occasion.
