Hello, crafty friends! I’m so excited to share today’s card with you, especially because it’s part of my Holiday Card Series, and this one celebrates Hanukkah in a big way. When it comes to creating holiday cards, I love using techniques that bring texture, shimmer, and dimension to the design—and this card is no exception.
For this project, I featured some amazing products from Simon Says Stamp: the Big Hanukkah Words Stamp Set, coordinating Big Hanukkah Dies, and the Twinkle Snowflakes Embossing Folder. I also had the chance to play with their brand-new Purple Rains Ink Cube Collection, and let me tell you, these inks are an absolute dream to blend with.
If you’re looking for a way to combine bold colors, intricate textures, and a little bit of sparkle, this card has all that and more. Let me walk you through the process and the products I used while sharing a few helpful tips along the way.
Happy Hanukkah Card:
The Inspiration Behind the Card
One of my favorite things about Hanukkah cards is the chance to work with blue and silver hues—they’re such a classic pairing, but I wanted to mix it up by adding some muted purples to the design. The Purple Rains Ink Cube Collection was the perfect choice for this. The three blues (Day, Dusk, and Night) have a beautiful gradient from light to deep, while the muted purples (Petunia, Peony, and Aster) add a subtle, sophisticated twist.
To create the background, I envisioned a panel that transitions seamlessly from blue to purple, almost like a winter evening sky. This dual-tone background becomes even more magical when paired with the raised, intricate snowflake texture from the Twinkle Snowflakes Embossing Folder. It’s amazing how much life a little ink blending and embossing can bring to a simple cardstock panel.
Adding Texture and Shine
Texture is one of my favorite design elements to play with, and the Twinkle Snowflakes Embossing Folder added so much depth to this card. To make the embossed details pop even more, I ink blended over the raised areas with the darkest shades of blue and purple from the ink set. This step takes the background from lovely to “wow” in just a few swipes of ink.
For a touch of shimmer, I added splatters of Picket Fence Spray Stain and some watered-down Perfect Pearls. These tiny details might seem small, but they make such a big impact when the light catches them. Pro tip: Always let your panel dry completely after adding any kind of spray or splatter. It’s tempting to rush ahead, but trust me, it’s worth the wait.
Elevating the Sentiment and Embellishments
The Big Hanukkah Words Stamp Set is a showstopper all on its own. The bold, clean font works perfectly for heat embossing, and I decided to pair it with WOW Embossing Powder in Polished Silver Super Fine for a crisp, shiny finish. Using the CottonTail Powder Tool on the cardstock before stamping ensures a clean result with no stray powder sticking where it shouldn’t.
I used navy cardstock for the sentiment and images to give them a rich, elegant base that contrasts beautifully against the blended background. The coordinating dies make it so easy to cut everything out perfectly—no fussy cutting required!
For the focal point, I used a simple 2 1/2" circle die cut and arranged the embossed menorah and sentiment on top. Sprinkling some heat-embossed stars around the circle added a festive touch while keeping the design balanced.
Why This Design Works
What I love most about this card is the way the different elements work together. The blended background adds softness and movement, the embossed snowflakes bring texture and depth, and the heat-embossed details add that final polished touch. It’s a card that feels special and celebrates the holiday in a bold yet elegant way.
If you’re someone who loves creating unique and meaningful cards, this design is a great way to experiment with layering techniques and combining textures. Plus, it’s a reminder that a little sparkle goes a long way, especially during the holidays.
Final Thoughts
This card was so much fun to make, and I hope it inspires you to try some of these techniques in your own Hanukkah or holiday cards. Whether you’re new to ink blending or a pro at heat embossing, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.
