Mother’s Day is one of those card-making occasions that always feels extra special. Whether you're making a card for your mom, a mother figure, or a friend who’s an incredible mom, a handmade card is a beautiful way to show appreciation. For this card, I wanted something bold and elegant but still soft and heartfelt. And what better way to do that than with daffodils? They’re a perfect symbol of new beginnings, resilience, and warmth—just like moms.

This card features the Sentimentally Speaking Stamps & Die Bundle, Daffodil Stamp Set, and Daffodil Die Set from The Rabbit Hole Designs, and I love how these products work together to create a striking design. Plus, I incorporated a fun background technique that adds just the right amount of depth without overwhelming the florals. Let’s take a closer look at how everything came together.
Happy Mother's Day Card:
Creating a Beautiful Daffodil Arrangement
Daffodils have such a unique shape, and I wanted to really highlight that in my design. I started by stamping the large daffodil bouquet three times using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on smooth white cardstock. Coloring florals is always my favorite part of card making, and for this project, I played with different shades of yellows, oranges, and even some white with soft yellow touches. It’s amazing how much depth you can create just by layering colors—starting with a light base, adding mid-tones, and finishing with deep shadows really makes a difference.
Pro Tip: When coloring white flowers, use subtle grays or pale yellows in the shadow areas instead of leaving them completely white. It keeps them looking dimensional rather than flat.
After coloring, I cut out all three bouquets with the coordinating dies. I love that the dies give such a clean cut, making it easy to arrange the florals in different ways. I also stamped and colored a single daffodil, giving it more of a dramatic contrast by using Blue Violet tones for shading, which played beautifully against the yellow-orange center.

A Soft Sky Background for a Focal Point
With the florals ready, it was time to build a background that would complement them without competing. Instead of a traditional ink-blended panel, I used one of the Background Basics Stencils from Penny Black to create a framed area. I started with Sky Blue ink, then deepened the edges with Waterfall and Turquoise to create a soft gradient. Keeping the stencil in place, I stamped the Happy Mother’s Day sentiment repeatedly across the opening using Waterfall Ink. This gave a subtle text effect that added interest without distracting from the main sentiment.
To define the stenciled area, I used a black gel pen to add a faux stitched border around the rectangle. It’s such a small detail, but it really gives the card a polished, finished look.

Layering Florals for a Full Arrangement
Now for my favorite part—arranging the florals! I started by placing the three large daffodil bouquets on the card front, overlapping some and trimming any overhanging edges. This technique gives the illusion that the flowers extend beyond the card base, making the arrangement feel fuller and more organic. Any leftover floral pieces? I tucked them into open areas, making sure no space looked too empty.
Then, I added the single die-cut daffodil as a focal point, popping it up with thin foam squares to give the card some dimension. This little touch made such a difference—the extra height and contrast in coloring made it stand out beautifully against the other florals.
Pro Tip: When layering florals, start with your larger pieces first and work your way to the smaller ones. This helps create a natural flow and prevents the card from feeling too cluttered.

A Bold Sentiment & Finishing Touches
For the main sentiment, I stamped Happy Mother’s Day from the Sentimentally Speaking Holidays Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. Once dry, I die-cut it with the coordinating die and layered it onto a second die-cut for extra stability. Layering sentiment dies like this is one of my favorite tricks—it gives the sentiment a bit of weight without needing foam tape. I adhered it right above the daffodils using liquid glue, making sure it was centered so it felt balanced.
Of course, no card is complete without a little sparkle! I added a few purple sequins from The Rabbit Hole Designs’ new sequin mix (which, by the way, is a free gift with purchase this month!). The pop of purple against the yellow and blue tones tied everything together and gave the card just the right amount of shimmer.
Pro Tip: When adding embellishments like sequins, stick to odd numbers (three, five, or seven) for a more visually pleasing composition.

A Special Touch for Mother's Day
This card turned out even better than I imagined. I love how the bold daffodils contrast with the soft, dreamy background, and the sentiment stands out beautifully while still feeling cohesive with the design. If you’re looking for a way to create an elegant yet heartfelt Mother’s Day card, this is a great layout to try—especially since you can easily switch up the flowers or colors to match your recipient’s style.
And if you’re planning to stock up on crafty goodies, don’t forget that this month you can get the Embellishment Bundle free with a $45 purchase before tax and shipping. Just add it to your cart, and the discount will automatically be applied at checkout. It’s a great little bonus to add some sparkle to your upcoming projects!
