Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with a handmade card filled with love? Today, I’m thrilled to share a card that’s all about combining delicate florals with a touch of pastel magic. Using the Fabulous Fuchsias Bundle from The Rabbit Hole Designs, I created a card that’s both elegant and playful—perfect for anyone who appreciates a thoughtful, handcrafted touch.
Happy Valentine's Day Fabulous Fuchsias:
Finding Inspiration in Florals
One of my favorite things about card making is how a single stamp set can inspire an entire project. When I first saw the Fabulous Fuchsias Bundle, I knew I wanted to create something soft and romantic. The fuchsias have such a graceful, flowing quality that made them the perfect focal point for a Valentine’s Day card.
I often start my projects by looking through my stash of pattern papers. This time, the Spring Floral 1 Paper Pack caught my eye, especially the sheet with pastel rainbow hearts. It had just the right mix of whimsy and charm, setting the tone for the rest of the card.
The Perfect Color Palette
Choosing a color palette can sometimes feel overwhelming, but here’s a pro tip: let your pattern paper guide you. I pulled my colors directly from the rainbow heart pattern in the Spring Floral 1 Paper Pack. This made selecting my OLO Marker colors so much easier and ensured that everything coordinated beautifully.
Layering for Impact
To give the card dimension and interest, I layered several elements. I started with a base of mint green gingham pattern paper, matted onto Grape Soda Cardstock. This created a lovely frame for the focal panel and added a subtle pop of color.
When layering, I always try to vary textures and patterns. The contrast between the soft gingham and the vibrant fuchsias really makes the design stand out. And don’t be afraid to mix patterns! As long as the colors work together, the different designs will complement each other.
Adding Dimension with Die Cuts
Once I had my stamped and colored images, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. Die cuts are a great way to add depth without bulk. I adhered the florals to the card front, layering them to create a natural, cascading effect. Tucking in the leaves around the flowers added a touch of greenery that balanced the design.
The Finishing Touches
No card is complete without a little sparkle! I added Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots to give the card a bit of shimmer. A few white gel pen highlights on the flowers brought out their details and added a hand-drawn touch that I love.
The sentiment, stamped from the Cupid Clarence Stamp Set, tied everything together. I used a banner die from the You've Been Framed Dies to cut it out, making it a standout feature on the card.
