Hello, crafty friends! Fall is here, and I couldn’t resist diving into those warm, rich autumn colors for my latest card project featuring Pixi Dust Designs’ Hello Autumn Slimline Dies and Pumpkin Spice Treats Stamp Set. There’s just something about the season that feels cozy and inspiring, so I set out to create a sweet, little fall scene that captures that autumn charm. Today, I’ll walk you through the design process, some helpful tips for layering and adding dimension, and how I used these products to build a card that’s both festive and uniquely personalized.
Hello Fall Fall Scene Card:
The Perfect Fall Scene Starts with Versatile Die Cuts
One of my favorite things about the Hello Autumn Slimline Die Set is just how many elements it includes! You have everything you need for a cozy scene, from the house to trees and pumpkins, right down to leaves and a little fence. For this card, I die-cut all the elements from Neenah Solar White 80lb Cardstock—this sturdy cardstock is my go-to because it holds up so well to coloring and layering without warping.
Pro Tip: When you’re working with tiny die-cut pieces (like those itty-bitty leaves), stick them onto some Blue Painter's Tape with the sticky side facing up. This trick keeps them in place, so you can color them quickly without having to chase after each tiny piece!
Coloring for Depth and Realism
With all my die cuts ready, it was time to bring them to life with color. I used my Ohuhu Honolulu Alcohol Brush Markers to create a blue sky backdrop on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel. This background acts as a bright, cheerful base for the scene.
For the fall foliage, I went with various shades of reds, oranges, and yellows, even adding a few unique color combos like muted blues and deep purples. Mixing in non-traditional fall colors can add unexpected interest and personality—after all, the leaves in nature don’t all turn the same shade, do they? I have fond memories of my own backyard with pops of purples among the leaves, so I let those memories inspire my palette here.
The Hello Autumn Slimline Die Set includes pieces designed as a walkway, but I decided to flip them on their sides and color them in different green combinations to form rolling hills instead. The background hill is a darker green, while the foreground is lighter, creating a layered, dimensional look that gives the scene more depth.
Pro Tip: Try adjusting the original intent of a die! Sometimes flipping or rotating pieces brings in a fresh perspective and can really expand your design options.
Building the Scene with Layered Elements
Once everything was colored, I started building the scene on the sky background panel. I placed the house on the back hill, tucking it just slightly to create the illusion of depth. Next came the tree, colored in warm browns, and adorned with those colorful leaves. One trick I love to use is adding leaves in clusters, some on the tree and others scattered across the ground, to give the scene a more natural feel. It’s amazing how these little details make the whole card feel more lifelike!
The fence pieces were another fun addition. I cut them four times and colored each one a slightly different shade of brown. Once attached, I trimmed any overhanging bits to keep the edges clean. A few pumpkins along the fence (some flat, some popped up with foam tape) brought in that final fall touch and helped tie everything together.
Finishing Touches for a Polished Look
For those final details that make a card feel polished and complete, I added in some clouds from the die set. Placing one behind the top of the tree created more dimension and added a sense of movement to the scene. To finish it off, I highlighted parts of the die cuts with my Uni-Ball Signo White Gel Pen and dotted on a little Star Dust Stickles here and there to add sparkle.
Attaching everything to an A2 card base cut from Ivory 100 lbs Cardstock really enhanced the fall vibe, grounding the bright autumn colors with a warm, neutral tone.
Pro Tip: Adding white gel pen highlights and a touch of sparkle with Stickles or other glitter glue can make the details on a card pop, without overpowering the entire design.
