Welcome to Fall Crafting!:

Crafting with Digital Stamps

I know some of you might be more familiar with traditional stamps, but digital stamps have quickly become one of my favorite ways to customize my cards. One of the best parts about working with digital stamps is the flexibility—they can be resized, flipped, and layered, giving you complete creative control.

For this card, I started by purchasing the Fall Scrappy digital stamp from Sweet November Stamps. Once I had it downloaded, I hopped over to Microsoft Word to start creating my card front. Now, here’s where you can have some fun—I took the pup cup and resized the cup so it would sit perfectly in front of the dog, making it look like he’s about to jump into it. If you’re like me and love to play around with different layouts, don’t hesitate to create a few versions! I ended up arranging three additional card fronts, each with a slightly different layout, just to see which one would spark the most inspiration later on.

Pro Tip: When working with digital stamps, I always recommend printing on high-quality cardstock that can handle your printer’s ink. I love using Hammermill Smooth 100 lbs Cardstock, but OHUHU White Cardstock is another solid choice that won’t jam your printer.

Coloring Your Scene with OLO Markers

Once I had my card front printed, I chose my favorite layout and got to work with my OLO Markers. If you haven’t tried these markers yet, they’ve become a staple in my craft room. Their smooth application and vibrant colors make them perfect for blending and layering, which was exactly what I needed for this card.

I began by coloring the puppy in warm browns and gave his pup cup a nice toasty look with some soft creams and tans—because nothing says fall like a cozy drink! For the background, I added a light wash of Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to the sky, keeping it soft and subtle. It’s amazing how a little ink blending can really bring a scene to life.

Pro Tip: When blending your background, start light and build up the color gradually. This will help you avoid harsh lines and keep everything looking smooth. You can always add more ink, but it’s harder to take it away!

Creating a Custom Background

Now, I know many of you love the pre-made patterned paper backgrounds, but sometimes, there’s nothing more satisfying than drawing in your own! For this card, I used my OLO Markers to sketch in some simple fall trees in the distance. I alternated the colors, pulling inspiration from the shades I used on the puppy. This way, everything ties together seamlessly, giving the card a cohesive look.

I also drew in the ground beneath the pup cup using the same greens from the cup to make sure the scene felt grounded. And of course, it wouldn’t be fall without some scattered leaves! I used golden yellows, oranges, red-oranges, and browns to create a mix of fallen leaves on the ground. To give them a bit more dimension, I outlined them with a Micron Pigma Pen in a loose, abstract style. This little touch added a whimsical element to the card without feeling too precise or rigid.

Story Time: I remember the first time I tried adding hand-drawn elements to a card. I was so nervous I would mess it up! But once I embraced the imperfections, I realized that’s what makes each card truly unique. If you’re hesitant to draw your own background, don’t be! Just go for it—chances are you’ll surprise yourself.

Finishing Touches for Extra Sparkle

After the main elements were complete, it was time for the finishing touches. I couldn’t resist adding a few white highlights with my Signo Uni-ball White Gel Pen—especially on the whipped cream in the cup. And because fall cards deserve a little sparkle, I added some Stardust Stickles to the whipped cream for that perfect sugary shimmer. It’s a subtle detail, but it really makes the card feel complete.

Pro Tip: If you’re adding Stickles or any other glitter accents, make sure to let them dry fully before assembling your card. I’ve learned that the hard way—nothing’s worse than smudging your carefully placed sparkle!

Adding the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I went with a simple "hello" using the Jane’s Small Alpha Die Set (from Hello Bluebird). I die cut the letters from Hammermill Smooth 100 lbs Cardstock and layered them with some scraps of Fern Cardstock. I love how the white peeking out behind the green letters adds just the right amount of contrast. Once the sentiment was ready, I adhered it to the card front. To finish everything off, I trimmed the card front to 4" x 5 1/4" and matted it with a piece of Fern Cardstock cut to 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" before adhering it to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Ultra Thick Cardstock.
