Hoppy Birthday Card: Hoppy Birthday Stamps & Dies | Simon Says Stamp

There’s something about spring that makes me reach for softer colors and cute critters—especially when I’m making birthday cards. And let’s be honest, we can never have too many birthday cards on hand, right?

Today, I’m excited to share a card I made using the new Hoppy Birthday Stamp Set and Hoppy Birthday Wafer Dies from Simon Says Stamp. The moment I saw that chubby bunny with the flower detail, I knew I wanted to try a soft, layered look—something that felt clean, but still had enough color and detail to stand out.

And if you’ve ever struggled with stamping layered images in multiple colors without making a mess (been there!), this post will give you a few tricks for getting crisp, clean results.

Hoppy Birthday Card:

The Inspiration: Multicolor Layering Without the Fuss

I remember when I first tried layering stamps years ago. I was so excited... and then immediately frustrated when my colors bled together or stamped unevenly. Over time, I learned that it’s not just about lining everything up—it’s also about knowing how to apply your inks intentionally.

For this card, I wanted to use soft pastels in a way that still allowed the details of the stamp to shine. I love how Buttercream, Grass, Ballet, and Heather Ink Pads from Simon Says Stamp worked together for this. These inks blend beautifully and have a creamy finish that really suits springtime cards.

Pro Tip: When you're layering inks in different colors, try using a sponge dauber to apply ink just where you want it. This helps you keep your colors from overlapping too much and gives you better control over your results—especially with floral details like the ones on this bunny.

What Makes This Design Work

Even though this is a fairly simple card layout, the layering of colors, the subtle ink blending in the background, and the custom-colored mat give it depth and interest.

I love making my own coordinating cardstock with ink. It’s one of those little tricks that’s saved me so many times when I didn’t have just the right shade in my stash.

Pro Tip: Want a perfect match for your inked background? Just ink-blend the edges of your cardstock in the same color and use it as a mat layer. Not only does it match perfectly, but it also saves you from having to buy or dig through tons of colored cardstock.

Favorite Details

One of my favorite things about this card is the little heart-shaped bunny tail. It's such a sweet, unexpected detail—and stamping it in Ballet Ink just gave it that little pop of pink I wanted. Once the bunny was fully stamped and die-cut, I popped him up in the center of my ink-blended panel with thin foam squares to keep that layered look going.

For the sentiment, I used the Black Rainbow Splash Ink Pad—it gives a nice, rich impression without being harsh against the pastel tones. I kept it simple with just “Hoppy Birthday” at the bottom of the panel.

Then, to finish things off, I added a few Rainbow Splash Gem Stickers. These are my go-to for adding just a little sparkle without overwhelming a design. They’re subtle, and they catch the light beautifully.

A Go-To Design for Birthday Cards

This is definitely one of those card layouts I’ll be using again and again. You could easily switch out the colors to fit the season or occasion, and the bunny works for more than just birthdays—think baby cards, Easter, or just a sweet “thinking of you” card.

If you’re like me and always trying to build up your birthday card stash while experimenting with techniques, this kind of design hits that sweet spot between simple and special.

Final Thoughts

Layered stamping doesn’t have to be intimidating. With the right tools—like a good stamp positioner, sponge daubers, and high-quality inks—you can get clean, professional-looking results every time. And sets like Hoppy Birthday make it easy to create something cute, colorful, and full of personality without needing a million supplies.
