Let's dive into the details of this Clean and Simple One Layer Card and explore how you can create your own little piece of beach paradise.
Blue Skies & Sunny Days Card:
The Inspiration
There's something magical about a sunny day at the beach. The warm sand, the gentle waves, and the carefree feeling of walking along the shore. This card project was inspired by those blissful moments, capturing the essence of summer with a sweet bunny enjoying a day out. I wanted to create a scene that would evoke those happy, relaxed feelings and bring a smile to anyone who sees it.
The Star of the Show: Beach Beauty Mini Stamp Set
The Beach Beauty Mini Stamp Set from Colorado Craft Company is simply adorable. It features a charming bunny carrying a little basket and sunglasses—ready for a fun day at the beach. The moment I saw this stamp set, I knew I had to use it for a sunny day-themed card. It's perfect for Clean and Simple designs, allowing the stamped image to shine.
Background Basics: Stencils from Penny Black
To create a soft, beachy background, I used the large circle stencil from the Background Basics Stencils by Penny Black. Stencils are fantastic tools for adding depth and interest to your projects without overwhelming your main image. The circle stencil helped me create a focal point with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, reminiscent of a clear blue sky.
Coloring Fun with Tombow Dual Brush Pens
When it comes to coloring, Tombow Dual Brush Pens are a favorite of mine. Their vibrant colors and blendability make them ideal for bringing stamped images to life. For this project, I used a few shades to color the bunny and her accessories. The Colorless Blender was instrumental in achieving smooth transitions between colors, adding depth and dimension to the image.
Pro Tip: Blending for Depth
One of my favorite techniques is blending with a Colorless Blender to create different shades of lights and darks. This adds a professional touch to your coloring, making the image pop. Don't be afraid to experiment with blending—practice makes perfect, and the results are worth it.
Assembling the Card
After coloring and ink blending, I stamped a simple sentiment inside the ink-blended circle using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. This ink is fantastic for crisp, clear impressions, especially for sentiments. The final step was to adhere the card front onto an A2 Top Folding Card Base made from Neenah Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock, ensuring a sturdy and polished finish.
Finishing Touches
For the embellishments, I kept it minimal yet effective. A few White Gel Pen Highlights with my Sakura Classic White Bold Gel Pen added a touch of brightness. I also used a Clear Overlay Glitter Pen from Spectrum Noir to add subtle sparkle to the image. To mimic the glistening sand and the shimmer of sunglasses, I added tiny dots of Stardust Stickles from Ranger Inc.
A Personal Anecdote
I remember my first attempt at blending colors with Tombow Dual Brush Pens. It was a bit intimidating at first, but with a little patience and practice, I quickly fell in love with the process. The key is to take your time and enjoy the journey of bringing your stamped images to life. Each card becomes a little piece of art, reflecting your unique style and creativity.
I hope this card project inspires you to create your own sunny day scenes.
