It's Your Day To Celebrate:
The Inspiration Behind the Card
I always believe that less is more, especially when it comes to crafting. The clean and simple design of this birthday card allows the vibrant colors and playful elements to really shine. Plus, using some of my favorite products makes the process even more enjoyable. There's something so satisfying about seeing a beautiful card come together with just a few essential supplies.
The Supplies I Used
For this project, I chose a mix of stamps, stencils, and inks that complement each other perfectly. Here's a quick rundown of what you'll need:
Festive Balloons Stamp Set from Simon Says Stamp: This set is perfect for birthdays and celebrations. The balloon bouquet image is both playful and elegant.
Background Basic Stencils from Penny Black: These stencils are fantastic for adding subtle backgrounds that don't overpower your focal image.
Tombow Dual Brush Pens: My go-to for vibrant and blendable colors.
Versafine Onyx Black Ink: Ideal for crisp, clean stamping.
Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and Memento Toffee Crunch Ink: Great for soft, blended backgrounds.
Bristol Smooth Cardstock: Perfect for smooth coloring and ink blending.
Neenah Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock: Provides a sturdy base for the card.
Stardust Stickles: Adds a touch of sparkle to your card.
White Bold Gelly Roll Pen from Sakura: Perfect for adding highlights and details.
Creating the Card
I started by stamping the balloon bouquet and a cheerful birthday sentiment onto Bristol Smooth Cardstock with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. This ink is a favorite of mine because it gives such a crisp image and doesn't smear when you're coloring over it.
Next, I colored the balloons using my Tombow Dual Brush Pens. If you haven't tried these pens yet, you're in for a treat! They blend beautifully, especially when you use the Tombow Colorless Blender. Here's a little tip: work in small sections and blend while the ink is still wet for the smoothest results.
Adding the Background
To create a clean, framed look, I used one of the rectangle masks from the Background Basic Stencils. I placed it over my stamped image, leaving a nice border around the edge. This helps to draw attention to the center of the card where all the action is happening.
I then did some ink blending with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and Memento Toffee Crunch Ink. I love the contrast these two colors provide. Blending Tumbled Glass on two corners and sides, and Toffee Crunch on the other two, creates a lovely gradient effect that frames the balloons beautifully.
Finishing Touches
After removing the stencil, I attached the card front to an A2 side folding card base made from Neenah Solar White Ultra Thick Cardstock. This cardstock is a favorite of mine because it's so sturdy and gives a professional finish to the card.
To add a bit of sparkle, I applied Stardust Stickles around the balloons on some of the confetti pieces. And for the final touch, I used the White Bold Gelly Roll Pen from Sakura to add highlights to the balloons, making them look even more dimensional and fun.
Pro Tips
Blending with Tombow Dual Brush Pens: Use a light touch and blend colors while they're still wet for the best results.
Ink Blending: Use a circular motion and light pressure to avoid harsh lines and achieve a smooth blend.
Adding Highlights: A white gel pen can really make your images pop by adding highlights and giving a three-dimensional look.
