Hello, crafty friends! Today, I have a magical card to share with you that brings a classic fairy tale to life. If you're like me, you love a good storybook moment, and what better way to capture that than with some ink blending, stenciling, and layering fun? This card features Scrappy Boy Stamps' Fairy Tale Book & Rose Builder Stencil, Beauty & The Beast Stamp Set, and the coordinating Beauty & the Beast Outline Dies—the perfect trio for a whimsical design that feels like it was pulled straight from the pages of a beloved tale.

I had so much fun playing with these elements, and I think you will too! Whether you’re looking to create something special for a Disney-loving friend or just want to experiment with storytelling through card design, this project is packed with techniques you can easily adapt to any theme.

Make Your Own Kind of Fairy Tale:

Creating a Storybook-Inspired Background

One of my favorite things about stenciling is how easy it is to layer color and create depth. The Fairy Tale Book & Rose Builder Stencil is designed to let you build a scene right onto your background, and I wanted to make sure each element stood out while still feeling cohesive.

I started with the rose, blending two shades of red for the petals and green for the stem to give it that classic enchanted look. Next came the book, where I layered three different browns for the cover and used a mix of yellow and light brown for the pages to make them look aged—like a well-loved fairy tale book that’s been passed down through generations.

Now, here’s a little trick: when blending colors for something like book pages, try using a super light hand at first. You can always add more depth with another layer, but it’s harder to lighten up if you go too dark right away.

To complete the background, I added the castle in black ink. I love how this small detail adds a sense of scale and mystery, making it feel like the castle is tucked away in the distance, waiting to be discovered.

Once everything was blended, I trimmed the panel down to an A2 card front and adhered it to my card base. This gave me a solid foundation to start layering my stamped images.

Bringing the Characters to Life

No fairy tale is complete without its characters, and Scrappy Boy Stamps' Beauty & The Beast Stamp Set has the most charming lineup! I stamped and colored several of the characters using TriBlend Markers, which gave me that effortless shading without having to think too much about color blending. If you ever feel intimidated by coloring, especially for detailed images like these, alcohol markers with built-in blending make a world of difference.

Once the characters were colored, I used the Beauty & The Beast Outline Dies to cut them out—because let’s be honest, fussy cutting all those tiny details would take forever! Then, it was time to arrange them on the card.

I wanted the characters to feel like they were stepping right out of the book, so I lined them up along the bottom edge using a mix of foam tape and liquid glue to create some dimension. This simple trick keeps your scene from feeling too flat while adding a touch of realism—almost like they’re part of an animated storybook moment.

The Finishing Touches That Make a Difference

I always say that small details are what truly bring a card to life, and this one was no exception. To add a little extra magic, I used gold and white gel pens to highlight different areas of the images. Just a few tiny dots and lines can add so much interest, especially on things like clothing folds or reflective surfaces.

Next, I added a gold dashed border around the edges of the card front. This was such a fun way to frame the design and mimic the look of a gilded book cover. I love how little details like this help tie everything together.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment in the top corner next to the stenciled castle, making it feel like part of the scene rather than just an add-on.
