I’ve been playing around with this die set for a while, and I have to say, it’s one of those sets that instantly sparks creativity. Whether you’re making a card for a nature lover, a camper, or just someone who enjoys a good s’more, this set is a go-to for crafting a fun, detailed scene that’s guaranteed to make an impression.

S'More Fun Camping Card:

Crafting the Die Cuts: Layering and Coloring

When I first started creating this card, I knew I wanted to bring all those intricate little die-cut pieces together in a way that would add depth and dimension. So, I cut out all the pieces using Neenah Solar White 80lb Cardstock, which I swear by for die cutting. It’s perfect for getting crisp, clean cuts and has just the right texture for adding color with markers or inks.

Now, let’s talk coloring. I used Ohuhu Honolulu Markers to color each piece, and honestly, I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. These markers are affordable yet vibrant, and they allow me to create that perfect shading I love. For example, I gave the tent a bit of a deeper shade along the folds to make it look like it’s really popping off the page. Same goes for the campfire and trees—they got a good layer of depth thanks to the markers.

Pro Tip: When coloring with markers, don’t be afraid to layer the color to build up depth. Start with a light wash of color and then add darker tones where shadows naturally fall. This gives your die cuts a more realistic, three-dimensional look.

Once everything was colored, I got to work layering the pieces together using Precision Glue Press. This is my go-to adhesive when I want a strong bond and no mess. It’s precise, easy to use, and ensures that every piece sticks just where I want it.

Creating the Background: Blending Distress Oxide Inks

Okay, now the fun part—creating the background! I’ve been really into Distress Oxide Inks lately because they blend so beautifully and give such a rich, velvety texture. For this card, I wanted the background to feel like a dreamy evening sky, so I reached for a mix of Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, Villainous Potion, and Black Soot for the sky. I started by blending the lightest shades at the bottom and gradually worked my way up to the darker colors.

Pro Tip: To create a smooth gradient, always start blending from the lightest shade and work your way to the darkest. You can always go back and blend a little more to soften the edges if the transition looks harsh.

For the ground, I chose Twisted Citron, Lucky Clover, and Rustic Wilderness to give it a vibrant, grassy look. I wanted the ground to feel lush and alive, so I took my time blending these greens together. It was a fun contrast to the softer, more pastel sky.

I also added a little texture to the background by flicking some water onto the inked area. The water reacts with the ink, creating a bit of a distressed look, which I love. It gives the scene more dimension and makes it feel a little more like real nature.

Assembling the Scene: Dimension and Detail

Once the background was done, it was time to assemble all the pieces. I started by adding the tent to the scene, placing it front and center. Then, I added the trees, some flat to the card base and others popped up on foam squares to give the card more dimension. It’s always a good idea to mix flat and popped-up elements on your card; it keeps the design interesting and gives the eye a place to rest.

The campfire was one of my favorite parts to assemble. I popped it up on 1mm foam squares so it would really stand out in the foreground. I added the logs and marshmallows on sticks next, placing them just so, to make it look like they were ready for a cozy camping night.

One of the final touches was the sign with the sentiment “S’more Fun” written on it. I used a Uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen to write on the sign. This pen is fantastic for adding crisp, white details on dark backgrounds—it stands out without being overpowering.

And because no camping scene is complete without a few twinkling stars, I added a moon and stars to the sky. The clouds were the finishing touch, and I used different sizes of foam squares to pop them up for some added depth.

Adding the Sparkle: Stickles to the Rescue

Finally, I couldn’t resist adding a little sparkle. Star Dust Stickles were the perfect way to give a little shimmer to the die-cut pieces, especially the fireflies, moon, and marshmallows. It’s subtle but adds a magical touch to the entire scene. I applied just enough to make it look like the stars were twinkling and the campfire was glowing.
