Seasonal Scene Building: A Cat Life | Altenew AECP Projects

Hello and welcome to my blog; today I am sharing two cute scene cards with you inspired by the Altenew AECP (Altenew Educator Certification Program) for the class Seasonal Scene Building. To Use on my scene cards today I picked to use the Cat Life Bundle to create the two fun spring time scene cards.

Seasonal Scene Building: A Cat Life | Altenew AECP Projects:

Both of my scene cards today feature the Cat Life Stamp Set and the Cat Life Dies (both from Altenew). For my cards I started out by stamping three of the cat images from the Cat Life Stamp Set with Jet Black Ink. I then used varies colors of Fresh Dye Inks (see the list of inks below that I used) to add in the layers of the cats, and then the mouse, ball of yarn, and the dragonfly from the set as well. I then used the coordinating Cat Life Dies to cut out each of the images.

Framed Scene Card:

Once I had all my cats and other images stamped and cut out I placed them into a bowl that I hold my waiting die cuts to be used in while I worked on the card fronts. For the first card I wanted to do a framed scene card. I started out by ink blending the background with Dew Drop and Aqualicious Fresh Dye Inks for the sky, and Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades Fresh Dye Inks for the ground/grass. Once I had the background completed I placed my cat and mouse (without attaching them) on the card and added the shadow with my Rock Collection Artist Markers (from Altenew). I then took my A2 Layering Dies and cut out a window from the center of the panel.

I also cut a mat layer to fit into the opening from some brown cardstock. I placed the outside frame on the card A2 card base and then added the brown cardstock frame to the inside. I then took Instant Dimensional Foam Tape and attached to the smaller section of the card front after stamping the sentiment. I placed it inside the opening leaving just a little of the brown cardstock to act as a frame for the scene. I then added the cat and mouse to the card over their respective shadows. For a little bling I used more of the die cut circles (from this project) that were left over as a simple embellishment.

Window Scene Card:

My next card I wanted to create a window card. So I took the remaining cats, ball of yarn, and the dragonfly (from the Cat Life Stamp Set) that I had stamped earlier. I started out with an A2 size card front and cut out a rectangle opening from the middle using my A2 Layering Dies. I wanted to make this look like a group of male cat suiters were trying to sway an inside cat out for a night of romance or just to friends saying they miss her. One of the great tips that Nicole said during the class was to tell a story in your head about the scene you're creating. So this is the story I was telling to my self while figuring out the mechanics of the design.

I took the left over rectangles from the parts of both cards that I had cut out for the frames and did a little ink blending on one using Teal Cave and Galactic Storm Fresh Dye Inks. I only had to go down with the ink blending half way of this rectangle because I knew the cats sitting on the fence and the fence would hid the rest of the panel. For the fence I took the second rectangle I had left over and my Altenew Crafter's Essential SCORING BOARD and scored every 1/2" along the panel. By the way if you are looking for a great small score board for your cards I highly recommend this one. I love it so much more than my other small score board.

To get the wood grain look on my fence I took a couple of my ink cubes from the Summer Afternoon Fresh Dye Ink Mini Cubes and the two from the Rock Collection Fresh Dye Ink Mini Cubes and just dragged the edges of the cubes along the scored card stock. Once you have all your colors in place you get a great textured wood effect. I then placed the fence on the inside of the card front after attaching the sky scene to by placing my card front on the card base and just attaching it in the center of the opening. I then could add the three cats looking in. To create the window I just took scraps of white cardstock and cut them to 1/4" strips. I attached them to the back of the white cardstock rectangle with a little liquid glue. I then added another rectangle frame to the back for stability and cut off any overhanging pieces.

I could then add in the window frame over my scene with a little foam tape. I added a little window seal with another piece of scrap cardstock cut to side with a little liquid glue and small pieces of Instant Dimensional Foam Tape. I then added my cat sitting on the window seal with a little Instant Dimensional Foam Tape behind her and added the dragonfly on the outside and the yarn ball on the the window seal. Another great tip from Nicole was to add elements both inside and outside of any window scene card. This allows your viewers eyes to travel around the card and add more interest to the scene.
