Hello, my wonderful crafty friends! I am absolutely thrilled to share with you some exciting new products from The Rabbit Hole Designs as part of their July 2024 New Release Blog Hop. Today, we are exploring two fantastic stencils – one making a triumphant return from the vault and one brand new addition – along with the stunning Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set and Dies. Let’s dive right into the colorful, creative fun!
Sentiments, Candy Twists, & Paisleys Oh My!:
Rediscovering Candy Twist
First up is the beloved Candy Twist 6 x 6 Stencil. When I first saw this stencil in the release, it brought back a flood of memories from past projects I've had seen from some of my favorite crafty friends. This stencil is a classic and so versatile for creating vibrant backgrounds. For my card, I decided to go all out with a rainbow ink-blended background using my trusty Distress Inks (see the Materials Used for full list of ink colors used).
Rainbow Ink Blending Magic
There's something truly magical about blending a rainbow of colors. It’s like watching a sunset unfold on your cardstock. I started by securing the Candy Twist Stencil over my cardstock and then blended a spectrum of Distress Inks. The reveal after removing the stencil is always my favorite part – those crisp, colorful lines never fail to impress!
To give the design a bit of a polished look, I trimmed the panel and mounted it on black cardstock. It’s a simple trick, but the black border really makes those colors pop. Adding the sentiment from the brand new Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set and Sentimentally Speaking Dies was the perfect finishing touch. This set is a game-changer – the sentiments are not only beautiful but also versatile for so many occasions.
Introducing Paisley Bandana
Next, let's talk about the new Paisley Bandana 6 x 6 Layering Stencil. Layering stencils are fantastic for adding depth and dimension to your projects, and this one is no exception. The intricate paisley design immediately caught my eye, and I knew I had to use rich, contrasting colors to do it justice.
Playing with Layers and Colors
For this card, I opted for a striking orange and green color combination. Layering the stencil with different inks really brings the paisley bandana pattern to life. It's almost like watching a pattern emerge as you layer color upon color – so satisfying!
One pro tip for using layering stencils: make sure your first layer is completely dry before adding the next. This prevents smudging and ensures crisp, clean lines. After completing the ink blending, I added a sentiment from the Sentimentally Speaking Stamp Set. I love how the bold sentiment stands out against the intricate background.
Finishing Touches
To complete these cards, I added some sparkle and shine. For the rainbow card, a sprinkle of Clear Sparkle Enamel Dots (from The Rabbit Hole Designs) added just the right amount of glimmer without overwhelming the design. For the paisley card, a few clear sequins from my stash provided a subtle, elegant touch.
Pro Tips for Card Makers
Pro Tip 1: When ink blending, use a light hand and build up the color gradually. This helps avoid harsh lines and creates a smoother gradient.
Pro Tip 2: If you're new to layering stencils, practice on a scrap piece of paper first. This will give you a feel for how the layers interact and help you perfect your technique.
Pro Tip 3: Keep baby wipes or a damp cloth handy to clean your stencils between uses. This prevents ink transfer and keeps your designs crisp.
