Stand Up Pop Up Holiday Card: Video Tutorial | Pixi Dust Designs

There’s something so special about creating a holiday card that not only looks festive but also has a little surprise for the recipient. Today, I’m excited to share a fun project that combines both—a Stand Up Pop Up Holiday Card using some fabulous products from Pixi Dust Designs. This design is perfect for those of you who, like me, love a card that has a bit of a “wow” factor but is still manageable to create.

Stand Up Pop Up Holiday Card:

A Fun Holiday Project with Pixi Dust Designs

When I think of holiday cards, I often find myself gravitating towards designs that bring a smile to someone’s face. This Stand Up Pop Up Card does just that—it’s interactive, eye-catching, and perfect for displaying on a mantle or shelf. For this project, I used the Happy Holidays Stamp Set, Nesting Frames Dies, Stand Up Pop Up Card Die Set, and the Let It Snow 6 x 6 Pattern Paper, all from Pixi Dust Designs.

These products work beautifully together to create a cohesive and festive card. The Stand Up Pop Up Card Die Set is particularly handy because it takes the guesswork out of creating a pop-up mechanism—no complicated measurements or tricky folds, just a few simple die cuts and you’re ready to go.

Crafting the Holiday Scene

One of my favorite parts of cardmaking is building little scenes with stamped images. For this card, I knew I wanted to create a joyful winter scene, so I turned to the Happy Holidays Stamp Set from Pixi Dust Designs. This set has such charming images, like Santa and Mrs. Claus ice skating, a snowman holding a Christmas tree, and a reindeer pulling a sleigh.

I stamped these images in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Neenah Solar White 80 lbs Cardstock—my go-to cardstock for coloring. If you’ve ever worked with this paper, you know how smoothly it takes ink, which is why it’s a staple in my craft room. To bring these characters to life, I used my TriBlend Brush Markers from Spectrum Noir. These markers are fantastic for achieving seamless blends and adding depth to your images.

Pro Tip: When coloring images for a scene like this, I like to add small highlights with a white gel pen. It’s a simple step, but it really makes the images pop and gives them a polished, professional look.

Creating the Card Base

Once the images were colored and cut out using my trusty CutterBee Scissors, it was time to focus on the card base. The Stand Up Pop Up Card Die Set from Pixi Dust Designs makes this part so easy. I die cut the base from Not Your Mama’s Cardstock—a heavyweight cardstock that I rely on when I need a sturdy, durable base. If you haven’t tried this cardstock yet, I highly recommend it, especially for projects that need to hold up to a bit of wear and tear.

For the back panel, I used the Let It Snow 6 x 6 Pattern Paper. This paper has a delightful wintery feel that complements the stamped images perfectly. I trimmed the pattern paper to leave a 1/4-inch border around the edges of the panel, which gives it a nice framed look when adhered to the base.

Bringing It All Together

Assembling the card is where the magic really happens. I carefully attached the fussy cut images to the card base, using Bearly Arts Liquid Glue for a secure hold. This glue is fantastic for detailed work because it has a precision tip, which lets you place tiny amounts exactly where you need them. The pop-up design allows these images to stand out and really come to life as the card is opened.

Finally, to tie everything together, I die cut the “Believe” sentiment using the Nesting Frames Dies. I layered it with some red smooth cardstock from the Christmas Smooth Cardstock Paper Pad, which added just the right amount of contrast and holiday cheer to the standing panel.

Pro Tip: If you’re ever unsure about color combinations, try picking colors directly from the patterned paper you’re using. This way, your design will always feel cohesive and well-thought-out.

The Pixi Dust Designs products really shine in this project. From the detailed stamps to the clever die sets, everything works together seamlessly to create a card that’s as fun to make as it is to give.
