Hello crafty friends! Today, I am thrilled to share a fun and creative project with you: making three unique cards using just one stencil and one die set. We’ll be featuring the gorgeous Peonies & Leaves Stencil from Simon Says Stamp and the versatile Joyful Wishes Dies from Scrapbook.com. These cards are perfect for showing how a few supplies can go a long way in creating beautiful and diverse designs. Plus, there's a video tutorial included for those who enjoy a detailed, step-by-step process.
Three Unique Cards Using One Stencil & One Die Set:
The Inspiration Behind the Project
I’ve always loved finding new ways to stretch my supplies and this project is a perfect example of that. With a little bit of creativity, you can transform a single stencil and die set into three distinct cards. The idea came to me one day while organizing my craft room – I stumbled upon some Distress Oxide Inks and thought, “Why not create a rainbow ink-blended background?” And so, the first card was born.
Card 1: Rainbow Ink Blended Background with Die Cut Sentiment
For the first card, I started by placing the Peonies & Leaves Stencil over a piece of Bristol Smooth Cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Using a selection of Distress Oxide Inks in rainbow colors, I ink blended over the stencil, creating a vibrant background. Once I removed the stencil, I was in awe of the stunning pattern left behind. After allowing the panel to dry, I die cut the "HI" sentiment from the center of the panel, saving the die cut for later use. To finish, I attached the panel to a top folding A2 card base, letting the card base peek through the die cut area to form the sentiment.
Pro Tip: When ink blending, use circular motions and light pressure to achieve a smooth transition between colors. This technique ensures a flawless, gradient effect.
Card 2: Watercolor Stencil Impression with Die Cut Sentiment
The second card uses the ink left on the stencil from the first card. I spritzed the stencil with water, flipped it onto another piece of Bristol Smooth Cardstock, and pressed down, allowing the ink to transfer. This created a beautiful watercolor effect. After drying the panel with a heat tool, I die cut the "HI" sentiment from the center again and added a pink shadow layer cut from Pink Smooth Cardstock. Adhering the card front to a top folding A2 card base, I then layered the pink shadow and the "HI" die cut sentiment on top.
Pro Tip: Don’t waste the ink on your stencils! By spritzing with water and transferring the ink, you get a second use out of your initial ink blending efforts, creating a soft and dreamy background.
Card 3: Striped Background with Stacked Sentiment
For the final card, I used colored cardstock scraps to create a striped background. I cut the scraps into various widths and adhered them to the bottom right corner of a top folding A2 card base. Trimming off the excess, I then took the leftover "HI" sentiment from the first card, stacked it with three more die cuts from white cardstock scraps, and attached it to a shadow layer cut from Pitch Black Cardstock. I adhered this sentiment to the card front, aligning it with the striped background.
Pro Tip: Stacking die cut sentiments adds dimension and interest to your cards. It also makes the sentiment stand out, especially when paired with a bold shadow layer.
And there you have it – three unique cards created with minimal supplies! I love how each card has its own distinct look, yet they all started with the same stencil and die set. This project not only showcases the versatility of the Peonies & Leaves Stencil and Joyful Wishes Dies, but also encourages you to think outside the box and maximize the potential of your crafting supplies.
