Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to create something extra special, and what better way than with a fun interactive fold? Today, I’m sharing a Trifold Valentine Fun Fold card featuring adorable products from Pixi Dust Designs, including the Snail Mail Die Set, She Snail Die Set, Valentine Heart Die Set, and the My Valentine 6 x 6 Paper Pack.
There’s something so satisfying about creating a card that opens in a unique way. A trifold design not only gives you more space to decorate but also makes for a fun surprise when the recipient opens it. And let’s be honest—there’s just something extra impressive about a card with multiple layers. But don’t worry, while this design looks intricate, it’s actually easy to put together.
In today’s post, I’ll walk you through how I created two versions of this card, one featuring the Snail Mail Die Set and the other using the She Snail Die Set. Plus, I’ve included a video tutorial so you can see the process in action. Let’s dive in!

Trifold Valentine Fun Fold Card:
Why I Love Trifold Cards for Valentine’s Day
One of the reasons I love trifold cards is that they allow for more interactive elements while still fitting in a standard envelope. This style gives you extra room for patterned paper, die-cut scenes, and heartfelt messages—all without making the card feel cluttered.
Another bonus? Trifold cards display beautifully when standing up! If you’ve ever made a card that felt a little too simple, this design is a great way to take it up a notch. Plus, the extra layers create natural sections for decorating, making it easy to add different textures and details.
Pro Tip: If you’re new to fun folds, scoring and burnishing your folds really well is key. This ensures the card lays flat when closed and stands up nicely when opened.

The Card Base & Layering with Patterned Paper
For the base, I started with a 5 1/2" x 12" piece of cardstock, scoring at 1 3/4", 4 3/4", and 7 3/4" on the 12” side. These score lines create the perfect accordion-style trifold. Once the base was folded and burnished, it was time to bring in the color and pattern.
The My Valentine 6 x 6 Paper Pack from Pixi Dust Designs is filled with charming patterns that are perfect for this style of card. I love mixing patterns that coordinate without overwhelming the design. For each card, I picked two different patterns and cut them to fit the panels:
Three pieces at 1 1/4" x 5" (matted with cardstock at 1 1/2" x 5 1/4")
Two pieces at 2 1/2" x 5" (matted with cardstock at 2 3/4" x 5 1/4")
One mat layer at 4" x 5 1/4", with a white insert at 3 3/4" x 5"
I arranged the patterned pieces in a way that created a continuous flow across the card, which helps guide the eye naturally from left to right.
Pro Tip: When working with multiple layers, inking the edges of your patterned paper can help create subtle definition between each piece, making the layers pop without adding bulk.

Building the Snail-Themed Scenes
Now for the fun part—assembling the adorable snail die cuts! The Snail Mail Die Set and She Snail Die Set both have charming little details that bring these characters to life. I cut the pieces from various shades of cardstock to give each snail some personality. The layering pieces make it easy to create depth, and I added a few white gel pen highlights to enhance the details.
For one card, I used the Snail Mail Die Set, which features a sweet snail carrying a love letter. For the second card, I used the She Snail Die Set, which has a cute bow detail. Both sets work beautifully for Valentine’s Day, and I love how they bring a playful touch to the design.
Pro Tip: When assembling die-cut images, use foam adhesive on certain layers to create dimension. Even a tiny pop of height makes a big difference in how your scene comes together.

Adding the Valentine’s Day Sentiment & Final Touches
The sentiment needed to stand out, so I used the Valentine Heart Die Set to create a layered focal point. I cut a red die-cut heart and paired it with a white scalloped heart, then added a “Happy Valentine’s Day” greeting on the front. Inside, I repeated the scalloped heart element for a cohesive look.
One thing I love about this card style is how much room it gives you for embellishing each panel. I tucked extra die-cut elements from the Valentine Heart Die Set into different sections of the card, filling the spaces with small details that tie everything together.
Finally, I added a few highlights with a white gel pen to bring extra dimension to the die cuts. It’s a simple but effective way to add life to your elements without overwhelming the design.

The Magic of Interactive Cards
Once everything was assembled, I gave the card a final test—opening it up to see the full scene come to life. That’s the moment that makes all the effort worth it! This trifold design not only looks impressive but also makes the recipient feel like they’re unwrapping something truly special.
If you’ve never tried a trifold fun fold before, I highly recommend giving it a go. The extra space allows you to get creative with layering and placement, and it’s a design that works for so many occasions beyond Valentine’s Day.
