Winter Wonderland Card Making: OLO Markers | Simon Says Stamp

Writer's picture: Rick AdkinsRick Adkins

Hello, friends! I’m so excited to share this cozy winter-themed card with you today. When the weather turns chilly, there’s something so satisfying about creating a card that captures the magic of a snowy scene. For this project, I used the Cozy Together Stamps and Dies along with the Winter Flurries Stencils from Simon Says Stamp to bring a little winter wonderland to life.

Winter Wonderland Card Making:

The Charm of a Snowy Scene

There’s a special charm to snowmen that never gets old, don’t you think? As a kid, I used to spend hours perfecting the snowman in our front yard, layering on scarves and hats, hoping it would last just a little longer before melting away. That memory inspired this card's centerpiece—a cheerful snowman stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with OLO Markers. The smooth blend of these markers makes it easy to add depth and dimension, bringing the snowman to life on Hammermill Smooth Cardstock.

Creating a Flurry of Snowflakes

No winter scene is complete without a flurry of snowflakes! I used the Winter Flurries Stencils and ink blended with Sky and Dusk Pawsitively Saturated Ink Cubes to create a soft, frosty background. The blend of light and dark blues adds depth, making the snowflakes pop against the white cardstock. Pro tip: when ink blending with stencils, use a light hand and circular motions for a seamless gradient effect.

Adding a Cozy Touch with Layers

To ground the snowman and add a cozy touch, I created a simple snowy hill from a scrap of Hammermill Smooth Cardstock. I ink blended the top of the hill with the same Sky and Dusk inks, letting the colors fade into the white of the paper for a natural gradient. Stamping the sentiment from the Cozy Together Stamp Set in Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink at the bottom of the hill tied the whole scene together.

Finishing the Card with Thoughtful Details

Details can make all the difference in card making. I used a white gel pen to add highlights to the snowman and a stitched border around the card front, giving it a handcrafted feel. For a touch of sparkle, I added a few Razzleberry Bubbles from Trinity Stamps around the sentiment and in the center of the snowflakes. These little embellishments catch the light beautifully, adding that extra bit of magic to the card.

A Versatile Design for the Season

What I love about this design is its versatility. By changing up the colors or the focal image, you can easily adapt this layout for different occasions. Imagine the same background with a festive tree or a cozy cabin scene—the possibilities are endless!
