You Are a Blessing Card: My Favorite Things | Fall For You Stamp Set

Hello, crafty friends! With fall in full swing, I couldn’t resist creating a card that captures the warm, cozy feeling of autumn leaves and cool breezes. Today, I’m sharing a card I made using the Fall For You Stamp Set and coordinating Die-namics from My Favorite Things. This set has the cutest little critters bundled up in scarves and sweaters—perfect for those crisp, autumnal scenes we all love!

This card is all about layers, texture, and using color to create that unmistakable fall feeling. Plus, I’ve added a few tips along the way on how to make your colors blend beautifully, add dimension, and give your card a touch of “fall magic.” Let’s dive in!

You Are a Blessing Card:

Finding the Perfect Colors: Creating Warm, Fall Hues

One of my favorite parts of creating fall cards is working with warm, rich colors. For this card, I stamped the little critter (who’s clearly ready to jump right into fall fun!) and a big pile of leaves using Coffee Archival Ink on Bristol Smooth Cardstock. The warmer ink shade feels softer and more seasonal than a basic black, and it really brings out that cozy, fall vibe.

Coloring Tip: To color these images, I used my Tombow Dual Brush Markers. I started by placing color in the darkest areas—like around the folds of the scarf and under the critter’s sweater—and blended it out with the Tombow Colorless Blender. Bristol Smooth Cardstock is ideal for this because it holds the color beautifully and lets you create those smooth, seamless blends without any harsh lines.

I wanted the leaves to have that classic mix of autumn shades, so I layered different browns, oranges, and a few greens to mimic the look of leaves changing colors. Don’t be afraid to mix it up with fall colors—sometimes blending a little orange and green can give a beautifully unexpected shade that adds interest.

Building a Background with Dimension and Texture

For the background, I chose a circle cut from Canson XL Watercolor Paper using the Stitched Mini Scallop Circles Die-namics. I blended Stormy Sky, Weathered Wood, and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks to create a subtle sky and grass effect. These colors give the scene a cooler, outdoor look, which really contrasts with the warmth of our little critter and the pile of leaves, helping them pop.

To add an extra touch, I stamped a tree branch in Stormy Sky Ink onto the background, giving the impression of a tree above. This little detail adds a bit of depth, suggesting that our critter is leaping into the leaves from under a cozy, shady tree—a simple trick, but one that really makes the scene feel complete.

Creating the Perfect Fall Card Panel

For the card front, I chose Candied Yam Cardstock—a warm, earthy tone that ties into our fall theme perfectly. I cut it to 4” x 5 1/4” and created a circular window at the top center, so our critter and leaves could peek through. Next, I embossed the panel with a Falling Leaves Embossing Folder to add some beautiful texture. This step is what makes the card feel truly like fall.

After embossing, I used Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks to add a little extra depth, brushing the inks lightly over the raised leaves to make them stand out. This small detail makes the background feel rich and adds so much character to the card!

Pro Tip for Embossing: If you want your embossed texture to really pop, try lightly brushing over it with a darker ink. The raised areas catch the ink and create a beautiful contrast that gives your panel that extra wow factor.

Putting It All Together

With all my pieces ready, it was time to assemble! I attached the ink-blended circle behind the embossed panel, allowing our “scene” to peek through the opening. Then, I framed it with the stitched scallop die-cut for a clean, finished look. This layering technique is one of my go-to’s when I want to create a more dynamic card—something about framing a little scene within the card makes it feel so special!

Once my background was set, I attached the card front to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Ultra Thick Cardstock. This sturdy base is my go-to for dimensional cards—it holds up perfectly, even with all the layers and textures. I then stamped the sentiment, “You Are a Blessing,” in the middle of the circle with Versafine Nocturne Ink for a crisp, solid impression.

Finally, I used Instant Dimensional Foam Tape to attach the die-cut critter and the pile of leaves, positioning the critter so it looks like he’s jumping right into the pile. I just love how it adds an interactive feel to the card, as if the scene is coming to life!

Finishing Touches: Little Details Make a Big Difference

To complete the card, I added a few white gel pen highlights on the critter and leaves. These little highlights help the images pop and give them a slightly animated feel, which brings everything together. It’s a simple step, but I always find it’s what really makes my images stand out.

Quick Tip for White Highlights: Adding small highlights can make all the difference in your images. Focus on areas that would catch the light, like edges of leaves, the scarf, or even the critter’s little nose. Just a few dashes with a white gel pen can add that polished, professional touch.

Reflecting on the Design

I’m so happy with how this card turned out! The layers, textures, and warm, inviting colors truly capture the spirit of fall. I love creating cards like this that tell a little story—where you can almost feel the breeze and hear the crunch of leaves. That’s the magic of crafting, isn’t it?

I hope this project inspires you to bring a bit of fall into your own crafting space. Try experimenting with your favorite fall colors, embossing folders, or background techniques, and see how they transform your designs. Remember, each layer, color, and detail you add brings your card to life.

Thank you for stopping by, and happy crafting! Don’t forget to share your own fall-inspired creations—I’d love to see how you bring this cozy season to life in your projects.
