Hello, crafty friends! I’m so excited to share a cozy winter card with you today featuring the adorable Mice Winter Stamp Set from C.C. Designs. This card has all the charm of a snowy day filled with sweet treats and skating adventures—perfect for sending warm wishes during the colder months.
I had originally planned for this card to go live on Sunday, but life had other plans. A storm rolled through my town, leaving us with some damage to clean up. While it was a hectic weekend, getting back into the craft room felt like the perfect way to find a little calm amidst the chaos. Isn’t it amazing how crafting can do that for us?
You Are Snow Cute:
Building a Whimsical Winter Scene
For this card, I started with two of the most delightful images from the stamp set: the ice-skating mouse and the cookie-loving little girl mouse. These two characters have so much personality, and I knew they’d make the perfect focal points for a winter scene.
After stamping them in Tuxedo Black Ink, I reached for my Ohuhu Brush Markers. I wanted to create a soft, cozy palette, so I leaned into muted tones. For example, I colored the girl mouse’s coat in a warm, muted red that feels festive without being overly bright.
Pro Tip: When coloring small images like these, focus on shading just one or two areas to add depth without overwhelming the design. For instance, adding shadows under the mouse's arms or around the folds of her coat makes a big impact with minimal effort.
Once colored, I fussy cut the mice. If fussy cutting isn’t your favorite thing, I recommend turning on some music or a podcast—it makes the process much more enjoyable!
Creating the Magical Snowy Backdrop
The backdrop for this card came together quickly but has a touch of elegance thanks to Snowflake Metallic Rub-ons. These rub-ons are a game-changer when you want a high-impact background without a lot of fuss. I applied them to a piece of white cardstock cut to 4" x 5 1/4", creating a subtle shimmer that catches the light beautifully.
This panel became the base for my winter scene when I attached it to a top-folding A2 card base.
To add dimension, I created a little snow mound by cutting a piece of white cardstock and lightly ink blending the edges for depth. Popping it up with foam adhesive made it stand out even more.
Telling a Story with Placement
When it came time to assemble the card, I knew I wanted the ice-skating mouse to take center stage, gliding across the snowy backdrop. The little girl mouse was placed closer to the foreground, looking on as if cheering her friend on between bites of her cookie.
Pro Tip: Think of your card design as a tiny storybook page. By varying the placement and dimension of your elements, you can create a scene that draws the viewer in and feels alive.
Adding the Sentiment and Final Touches
The sentiment, “You are snow cute,” from the same stamp set was a perfect fit. I stamped it in Tuxedo Black Ink and colored the heart at the end to match the little girl mouse’s coat. Fussy cutting around the sentiment allowed me to place it exactly where I wanted on the card front.
To tie everything together, I added gold stitched lines around the edges using a gel pen. This small detail frames the design beautifully and gives it a polished, finished look. For a final touch, I used a white gel pen to add highlights to the mice and snow mound, bringing a little extra brightness to the scene.
Finding Joy in the Process
This card came together during a challenging weekend, but it reminded me why I love this craft so much. It’s not just about the finished project; it’s about the moments of creativity and joy that happen along the way.
If you’re inspired to create your own winter scene, I’d love to see what you make! Feel free to share your projects on social media and tag me so I can admire your creations.
